Welcome to

Charente Maritime Kennels

Studding Available All Year Round On Selective Bitches

This all started when one night my wife and I were watching a film
"Turner & Hooch" when we had thought that it would be nice to own one of those dogs.
The next day my wife had seen a picture of the same breed of dog in a magazine and from there we found out the name of the breed,
"Dogue De Bordeaux" from here I started to do some research into the dog and started to look through the local papers and luckily I found an advert “Dogue De Bordeaux pups for sale”.
So I phoned it and spoke to a man called Billy Farrell who invited me down to have a look at the pups. So with my son, off we went.

Walking into Billie’s yard and seeing the dogs I knew straight away that these dogs were right for me, and I think Billy seen that to as he asked me if I wanted to take one home.
This caused a bit of a dilemma as my wife was expecting our second child and I wasn't sure if she would take to them the way I did.
But I took a chance and took the pup home with me, and that’s when she fell in love with it, and wanted more, so with that thought I decided to start breeding them and asked my father to come into it with me.
From there we have set up our kennels, joined the Dogue De Bordeaux club of Ireland, made connections with people in the business and done more research on how to prepare the dogs for shows
This wouldn't have been possible without the help of my mother and father who I offer many thanks.

Mother cooks nothing but the best Chicken for the dogs and to top that she even bakes buns everyday for them and treats them like her own wee babies, my wife and kids help as much as they can, walking the dogs and washing the yard etc. Having these dogs as part of my life is one of the best things that I have ever done and now I have many top quality lines.
From my first bitch Shelly, we had our first litter of seven pups, all big and healthy it was like a dream come true.
I then saw a dog called Oscar at a show in Dublin, My father and I fell in love with this dog instantly, Oscar came from the Cairnshaws and
Ishinrosse kennels and we got to know the owners and arranged for Oscar to serve my bitch. While waiting for our bitch to come into season we were invited to a show by the guys who owned Oscar and introduced to a litter that Oscar had just had. This is where I bought Ozzy.
We decided that when Ozzy was old enough that he would mate him with our bitches.
Soon after our bitch Shelley came into season so we took her to England to have her served by Oscar, Months passed and Shelley gave birth to a litter of 13 pups which at the start were all healthy and well, but they all became sick so it was of to the vets to see what was happening and it was then that we found out that the pups had a virus called PFS (puppy fading syndrome) from here we were left with one pup,
So the wife and kids decided to call her Lucky. The vet advised us to mate Shelley again but to give her a break first, we did and then mated her with Ozzy, Shelley gave us a litter of ten pups and all were healthy and well.
This is where we are at now but do check back with us on a regular basis because with these dogs and the commitment of my family we know that this isn’t the end of the story and there's a lot more to come, and to think all this came from watching a film.
